CALIFORNIA COASTKEEPER ALLIANCE
Founded in 1999, the California Coastkeeper Alliance (CCKA) began as coalition of Southern California Waterkeepers and has since expanded to the Oregon border and into the Delta. CCKA is a non-profit organization that coordinates, supports and enhances the work of local California Waterkeepers in order to ensure Californians enjoy clean water and a healthy coast. The California Coastkeeper Alliance represents twelve Waterkeeper organizations from the Oregon border to San Diego.
In early 2007, Hydrophix sponsored CCKA’s annual retreat and was even invited to participate. This event provided a tremendous opportunity for Hydrophix management and staff to have one on one interaction with all of the California Waterkeepers and, in doing so, gain a better understanding of their programs, challenges, and goals.
“As a company we understand the importance of clean water and want to directly help organizations dedicated to cleaning up and sustaining this valuable resource.” Duane Cook, COO, Hydrophix

FRIENDS OF AVALON BAY
In 2006, soon after Hydrophix (formerly Abtech Pacific) was launched, it became the primary sponsor for the inaugural “Friends of Avalon Bay” concert. The event featured long time surfer and musician Donavon Frankenreiter and raised nearly $10,000 that the City of Avalon was able to use towards Avalon Bay Water Quality Projects. This funding helps with water quality improvements to guarantee that the waters remain clean for years to come for the enjoyment of visitors and residents alike.
A surprise guest was seven-time Tour de France winner and environmentalist, Lance Armstrong, who is a big fan of Donavon but had never seen him perform live and had never been to Catalina Island. Armstrong came over just for the show and sat among the crowd as everyone moved and grooved throughout the afternoon event.
Hydrophix was proud to be a part of this inaugural benefit concert which not only helped to raise money for such a worthy cause, but reflected the Hydrophilosophy of the company and its mission.
“Thank you very much for your sponsorship and support of the inaugural “Friends of Avalon Bay” (FAB) benefit concert featuring Donavon Frankenreiter. Without your support we would not have been able to get this event (and worthy cause) off the ground!” Bettina Breckenfeld, Plan B Events.

HEAL THE BAY
Heal the Bay is a nonprofit environmental organization dedicated to making Southern California coastal waters and watersheds, including Santa Monica Bay, safe, healthy and clean. Heal the Bay's efforts are focused on Santa Monica Bay and surrounding Southern California coastal waters. Their work, however, often impacts water quality for the entire state of California and even the nation.
Heal the Bay’s 16th Annual “Bring Back the Beach” Dinner, held May 31, 2007 at Santa Monica’s Barker Hangar, was a star-studded, fund-raising success. The sold-out gala, attracted more than 1,100 attendees and raised $700,000 for Heal the Bay. Hydrophix was a proud sponsor of this event.

HEAL THE OCEAN
Heal the Ocean started in August 1998 following the publication of a Santa Barbara News-Press editorial by Hillary Hauser. Heal the Ocean focuses on wastewater infrastructure-sewers and septic systems, as well as other municipal operations that contribute to ocean pollution in Santa Barbara and across the country.
In 2006 and 2007, respectively, Hydrophix sponsored Heal the Ocean’s 2nd and 3rd annual benefit concerts which featured popular, award-winning musician and surfer Jack Johnson. The 2006 benefit concert's guest artist was Amos Lee and in 2007 featured the Taj Mahal band. Emmy award winning actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus was the "mistress of ceremonies" for both years. Both events were held at QAD overlooking the ocean and both were completely sold out weeks in advance. These annual benefits raise much needed funds to help the organization support laboratories, researchers, scientists, lawyers and other experts in their never ending quest to “heal the ocean”.

INLAND EMPIRE WATERKEEPER
Inland Empire Waterkeeper's mission is to protect and enhance the water quality of the Upper Santa Ana River Watershed and other waterways of the Inland Empire of Southern California through advocacy, education, restoration and enforcement.
Inland Empire Waterkeeper (IEWK), a chapter of Orange County Coastkeeper, is a grassroots, nonprofit organization founded in 2005 to identify and remedy water-quality issues affecting Inland Empire lakes, rivers, streams and groundwater. In 2007, IEWK began an extensive testing program called the Forest Canyon Baseline Project. In an effort to assist them in this endeavor, Hydrophix provided use of its fully equipped laboratory and even helped train their staff on all of the equipment for sample analysis.
“Hydrophix is clearly an advocate for clean water - their support for our organization through laboratory supplies and equipment has been incredible.” Lee Reeder, Inland Empire Waterkeeper.

ORANGE COUNTY COASTKEEPER
The mission of Orange County Coastkeeper (OCCK) is to protect and preserve Orange County's marine habitats and watersheds through education, advocacy, restoration, and enforcement. OCCK is committed to protecting and preserving our marine habitats through working with stakeholders to develop solutions to problems caused from the impacts of polluted urban runoff.
Hydrophix was honored to be a sponsor of OCCK’s annual Toast the Coast event and helped this wonderful organization raise $140,000 for their programs. In addition, Hydrophix Chief Operating Officer, Duane Cook, was asked to be an OCCK Board Member in 2007. Hydrophix is honored to be an integral part of an organization that has done so much for the Orange County watersheds and coast.
“Thanks to the contributions of our sponsors and event attendees, Toast the Coast 2007 went above and beyond all previous years.” Garry Brown, Executive Director and Keeper

SAN DIEGO COASTKEEPER
San Diego Coastkeeper (SDCK) protects the region’s bays, beaches, watersheds and ocean for the people and wildlife that depend on them. Balancing community outreach, education, and advocacy the organization promotes stewardship of clean water and a healthy coastal ecosystem.
San Diego Coastkeeper was originally launched in 1995 as San Diego Baykeeper in an effort to combat chronic pollution of San Diego Bay that had transformed a once-thriving ecosystem into a highly toxic waterbody. A local, community-based advocacy group, Baykeeper became the 15th approved Waterkeeper program in the country.
In 2007, Hydrophix sponsored the development of SDCK’s new, self-sustaining, ultra-modern water monitoring lab. This new lab enables more volunteers to participate in SDCK’s water monitoring program while providing a modern facility to ensure the highest quality water evaluation in and around San Diego County.
“Thanks to Hydrophix, San Diego Coastkeeper has been able to develop a state of the art water quality monitoring lab. Their assistance has enabled us to engage even more volunteers in our citizen monitoring program, and has allowed us to grow in our capacity to secure that the highest quality of data is being generated. This support has been critical to the value of the work that we do.” Karen Franz, Watershed Monitoring Program Director.

SAN FRANCISCO BAYKEEPER
San Francisco Baykeeper is committed to protecting and restoring the water quality of the San Francisco Bay through regulatory advocacy, targeted policy campaigns and direct enforcement of California’s clean water laws. This environmental organization works hard for the day when the waterways in all Northern California communities are once again safe for drinking, fishing, and swimming.
San Francisco Baykeeper was founded in 1989 as the fourth "waterkeeper" organization in the nation and the first on the west coast - on the principle that our waterways are common property, owned by all who use and enjoy them.
In September 2007, Hydrophix proudly sponsored Baykeeper’s Green Drinks event. The event was held to celebrate the successful conclusion of a decade-long fight to reduce mercury in the San Francisco Bay. In addition, it secured funding for their upcoming battle against big oil when it was discovered that local oil refineries could be contributing as much as 1,700 kg of mercury to the environment – nearly 2.5 times the amount allowed under the new plan by all the rest of the sources combined.
Over 150 people attended this event, making it the most successful Green Drinks event to date.

SANTA BARBARA CHANNELKEEPER
Santa Barbara Channelkeeper's (SBCK) mission is to protect and restore the Santa Barbara Channel and its watersheds through citizen action, education, field work, and enforcement. SBCK was founded in September 1999 as a program of the Environmental Defense Center, and became an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in January 2002.
In 2007, Hydrophix was a proud sponsor of SBCK’s annual Blue Water Ball and a supporter of the Channel Champions campaign aimed at raising funds for a new, larger boat for their important on the water work. The highlight of the sold-out event was the keynote address by actor and environmentalist Ed Begley, Jr. Terry Tamminen, former Cabinet Secretary to Gov. Schwarzenegger, introduced his long-time friend Begley – who drives an electric car, lives in a completely solar-powered home and buys only recycled products – and presented him with Channelkeeper’s 2007 Award for Environmental Leadership.

WINDOWS ON OUR WATERS
Windows-On-Our-Waters™ (WOOW) is an organization dedicated to raising the awareness of school children and the general public on the issues of watershed protection and preservation. WOOW empowers individuals to become active environmental stewards by motivating and providing the tools they need to help stop the amount of pollutants reaching our aquatic, coastal and marine ecosystems.
The sixteen-foot TP Cruiser shows the dramatic results of nonpoint source (NPS) pollution and its effect on the marine environment in an exciting, innovative, and hands-on way. More importantly, participants are given the tools they need to decide for themselves the type of impact they will have on the beaches and coastal waters of southern California.
In 2007, Hydrophix had the opportunity to sponsor this amazing organization through a direct donation and also an in kind donation for the TP Cruiser. Hydrophix staff used their many talents to help repair and enhance the TP Cruiser for future events. WOOW also installed one of our very own Ultra Urban Filter® into the “Worm’s-Eye View Storm Drain” as an example of what can be done to help control pollution from entering our waterways and ocean.
“My thanks to the crew who did an outstanding job, going above and beyond to make the Cruiser not only look better, but to function better as well. I was completely and happily surprised by the painting of the exterior (including the trailer hitch and chains!) In this day and age it is a welcome thing to meet people who take so much pride in their work.” Gary Poe, Executive Director
